What does implementation typically involve and how long does it take?
Most Enterprise customers are fully operational within 3–5 business days. Implementation includes: SSO configuration (we provide a technical implementation guide and live support), ERP/HRIS integration setup (pre-built connectors for SAP, Workday, and Oracle), team seat provisioning and role configuration, approval workflow setup, custom contract template review and upload, and a live training session for hiring managers. For complex organizations with multiple subsidiaries or jurisdictions, a phased rollout typically takes 2–4 weeks.
How does Upwork handle worker classification and misclassification risk?
Upwork Enterprise includes an automated worker classification risk assessment tool that evaluates each engagement against jurisdiction-specific criteria (including ABC test states, IR35 in the UK, and EU platform work directive requirements). Our compliance team monitors regulatory changes across 180+ countries and updates our risk models accordingly. We provide standardized independent contractor agreements, offer Employer of Record (EOR) services for high-risk jurisdictions, and maintain a legal team available to Enterprise customers for compliance consultations. How does billing work for large teams with multiple departments?
Enterprise customers receive a single consolidated invoice each month covering all freelancer payments across all departments. You can configure cost centers aligned to your chart of accounts, set department-level budgets with approval thresholds, and export detailed transaction reports in CSV, Excel, or via direct API to your ERP. We support ACH, wire transfer, and credit card. NET 30 and NET 60 payment terms are available. All invoices include line-item breakdowns by cost center, project, freelancer, and time period.
Is there a minimum spend or contract commitment?
Business plan requires a 12-month annual commitment with no minimum spend. Enterprise plan requires a 12-month commitment and a minimum annual platform fee of $18,000 (inclusive of the monthly subscription). Enterprise+ pricing is fully custom with volume-based discounts starting at $500K annual managed spend. All plans offer a 30-day money-back guarantee if you're not satisfied after implementation. We do not require minimum spend commitments on freelancer contracts — you only pay for what you use.
